Thankful Thursday: Wm M Whiteside

William Modrel Whiteside
Birth: Nov. 7, 1812
Illinois, USA 


Death: Sep. 3, 1864
Macon County
Illinois, USA  

 
William Modrel Whiteside was born 7 Nov 1812 in Madison County, Illinois, which was mostly the southern half of the state. The son of General Samuel A. Whiteside and Nancy Miller Whiteside, he married Elmira "Mirey" Owens 15 February 1834.

William and Mirey had at least the following children: 

Nancy (b 1835)
 Sarah (b. 14 Dec 1836 m. Joseph M. Scott d. 27 Dec 1927) 
Samuel Wm. (b. 1840 m. 2 Aug 1860 Elizabeth Lewis, d 29 Mar 1931) 
Wm Addison (b 18 Sep 1842 m 16 Sep 1868 Sarah Ann Bramel d 31 July 1908)
 Alvira (b 1847)
Eliza (b.1850)
Lenora (b.1852) and 
William (1860).

William Modrel owned  land in Niantic Township, Macon county, Illinois and paid taxes on 145 acres in 1865. In 1866, his holdings had increased to 165 acres. He left a fair sized estate to his surviving heirs: Eliza, Nancy Bush, Sarah Scott, Leonora J Crichenot, William, Alvira Allinson, Addison and Samuel W.Whiteside.


William and Mirey are buried in the Old Section of Long Point Cemetery, Niantic, Macon county, Illinois.  The tall spire has an inscription for William on one side and for "Mirey" on the other.
