Marriage Record for John Lewis and Harriet Little

Jacob Lewis and Harriet Little Lewis - parents of Elizabeth Lewis Whiteside

Jacob Lewis was born in Macon county, Illinois.
He was married on the 21st of October in 1841 to Jane Cochran in St. Louis, Missouri. They lived in St. Clair County, Illinois until about 1860.

Jacob and Jane had the following children:
Elizabeth (b. 1843), John, Sarah, Catherine, Mary (b. 1848 m.Wm. Hignight, d. 1927), Jacob Jr., Malinda, Samuel, William, Charles, James, Cintha and Winnette (b. 1867)

His daughter Elizabeth married Samuel W. Whiteside in 1860 in Macon county, Illinois. His wife, Jane, died in 1868 in Macon County, Illinois.

Jacob married Harriet Little in St. Louis, Missouri, on 11 Oct. 1870. They lived in Turnback, Lawrence, Missouri, in 1880. One child, Charles was born in 1881 and later lived in Macon County, Illinois in the home of his sister, Elizabeth.

George William Hawk 1810-1846

David Hawk and his son, George William, came from the part of Pennsylvania where the Conestoga wagons were built in Lancaster County to Niantic, Illinois in 1842 at age 32. They are listed on the 1840 census, in separate households. David died not long after they came to Illinois, in 1844, and was buried on the old Jacobs place in Macon County. George's mother, whose name is unknown, is supposed to have died in Pennsylvania before 1842. They settled south of Niantic, Illinois.

Macon, Illinois, USA. He married REBECCA PENELOPE TEMPLIN on 23 Feb 1833 in Fayette, Ohio,
USA, daughter of Isaac Templin and Rebecca Stoker. She was born on 15 Nov 1812 in Fayette,
Ohio, USA. She died on 26 Sep 1886 in Macon, Illinois, USA.

George Hawk, known as Bill, is listed as a founding member of Macon County in the History of
Macon County. George's mother, whose name is unknown, is supposed to have died in Pennsylvania before 1842.
George William Hawk and Rebecca Penelope Templin had the following children:

i. REBECCA J HAWK was born on 18 Apr 1835 in Ohio, USA. She died on 03 Jul 1911
in Missouri, USA. She married Hugh. James WOODS. He was born in Missouri, and died there.

2. ii. JOHN ARMSTRONG HAWK was born on 10 Mar 1837 in Fayette, Ohio, USA. He died on 18 Dec 1910 in Niantic, Macon, Illinois, USA. He married SARAH ELLEN FARIS on 26 Feb 1863 in Decatur, Macon, Illinois, USA, daughter of Eli Shelby Faris and Lucilla Pulliam. She was born on 18 Jul 1845 in New Market, Highland, Ohio, USA.
She died on 19 Jun 1923 in Niantic, Macon, Illinois, USA.

3. iii. ADEN CLEVENGER HAWK was born on 19 Aug 1839 in Lafayette, Tippecanoe, Indiana, USA. He died on 01 Nov 1918 in Niantic, Macon, Illinois, USA. He married
AMY CATHERINE CASS BLANKINSHIP on 06 Nov 1862 in Macon, Illinois, USA,daughter of Joseph T. Blankinship and Amy R. Ridgway. She was born on 20 June 1842 in Ohio, USA. She died on 13 Apr 1928 in Harristown, Macon, Illinois, USA.

4. iv. JAMES MADISON HAWK was born on 28 Nov 1841. He died on 28 Dec 1930 in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois, USA. He married LAURA O FOSTER on 24 Mar 1887 in Macon County Illinois, USA (second marriage for Laura), daughter of
Robert Foster and Mary Ann Barnett. She was born on 02 Mar 1853 in Illinois, USA. She died on 12 Feb 1922 in Springfield, Sangamon, Illinois, USA. James is buried at Camp Butler in Springfield.

v. GEORGE WILLIAM HAWK II was born in 1844 in Niantic, Macon, Illinois, USA. He died on 11 Oct 1864 in Niantic, Macon, Illinois, USA.

After G. W.'s death, his widow, "Nellie"(Rebecca Penelope) married Nathan Averitt and they had a child: Laura Averitt, b.29 May 1854, Niantic, Macon, IL.

Obituary - Nellie Hawk Averitt

PENELOPE TEMPLIN HAWK AVERITT

SEPTEMBER 26, 1886

Mrs. Penlope Averitt was born in Fayette County, Ohio, November 15th, 1813. She was the daughter of Isaac Templin, one of the early settlers of that state and a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church. She was married at the age of eighteen to William Hawk, with whom she emigrated to Macon County when Decatur was a village, and when no railroad was in the county, settling in Niantic township. Death deprived her of her husband in 1848, and in 1852 she was married to Elder Nathan G. Averitt, of the Christian church, with whom she lived till March 6, 1867, when she was again left a widow.

In 1846 under the ministration of Elder Watt. Bowels, of the Christian church, she became a member of that denomination, and has remained a zealous member ever since, embracing a period of forty years.

Her death occurred in Niantic, Illinois, September 26, 1886, at the age of seventy-three years. The funeral services were held in the Christian Church at Niantic, September 27, Rev. A. C. Foster officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Long Point Cemetery.

Mrs. Averitt has resided in Niantic for eighteen years where she was known by every one. She leaves three sons and one daughter, residents of the township, and a daughter living in Iowa, to mourn her death.

According to the U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 (an on-line database), Levi Hollingsworth married Charity Hollingsworth in 1798 in South Carolina. By 1840, the families of Levi, Abram, Eli, and Nehimiah are all living in Helt Township, Vermillion County, Indiana.
